Skateboarding Hall of Fame Inductees from the 1960’s era of skateboarding. This time period is mainly known as sidewalk surfing and the first mass produced skateboards flooded department stores across the USA. The wheels went from metal roller skate wheels to clay and the first kicktail was added to skateboards in a patent by Larry Stevenson in 1969, but skateboarding had already suffered a mass exodus as the media portrayed skateboarding as extremely hazardous.
George Trafton was on the original Hobie Team back in the 1960’s. He shifted to surfing by the early 1970’s and ruled the beach at Topanga for more than half a century. Tony Alva and Jim Muir credit Trafton with being one of the OG style masters that they looked up to.
Steve and Dave Hilton were members of the original Hobie Skateboards team in the 1960’s. They traveled around the country doing demos and showing people what skateboarding was.
Brandon (Woody) Woodward took nearly everyone by surprise when he won the Class A division (10 under) at the 1965 International Skateboarding Championships in Anaheim, CA. The 10-year old Woody swept the three disciplines—flatland slalom, downhill, and freestyle (tricks). For his efforts he was awarded a college scholarship” from Skateboarder Magazine (Woody never attended college).
