In 1978, a group of guys forged power, precision and speed to launch Independent Trucks, marshaling the energy and drive of the Skate and Destroy attitude. In January 1981, during one of skateboarding’s lowest downturns, the arrival of Thrasher magazine was heralded, with Kevin Thatcher at the helm and his classic hand-drawn image of a skater blasting concrete coping on their first cover. Aptly named by Duane “the Master of Disaster” Peters himself, Thrasher‘s driving mantra of Skate and Destroy has survived and thrived over four decades and shows no sign of slowing down. Thrasher‘s Skateboarder of the Year, aka SOTY, celebrated annually in a raging style, remains the most coveted prize in skateboarding.
