Here we have the the long overdue Kelly Belmar appreciation post. Way back in 1990, Kelly who was co-owner of Screaming Squeegees (the screener of most skateboards manufactured at the time) took a grip of his profits, bought a house and immediately built a skatepark style pool in his backyard. At the time, there was nothing else like it and skaters traveled far and wide just to skate it.
From 1990 until its demise around 2018 the sound of wheels on tiles zipping through the corners could be heard in the Garden Grove neighborhood. I was fortunate to have skated and photographed in this pool many times in its lifespan. Also got to see legends like Christian Hosoi, Jeff Grosso and Jason Jessee (@christianhosoi @grossosucks and @jasonjessee) skate it. I only wish I could have seen rippers like Blaize Blouin or Jeff Phillips ride there.
